Newbie: Invalid Credentials

[root@Webby openldap]# ldapadd -x -h localhost -D "cn=root,dc=family,dc=com" -f base.ldif -W
Enter LDAP Password:
ldap_bind: Invalid credentials


I'm trying to work my way into a openldap server on a local server I will use for my home system.  I've managed to make it to this error following the Idealx documentation, but I think I am getting stuck due to prior unsuccesful work I did.

Can someone shed some light on either how to purge/delete the database with potentially bad information or ??
