Why not just use different soft links on each server, to redirect the home 
directories to where you want them?

Example:

homedir: /urg/hhoffman

server: test
link /urg/hhoffman -> /home/hhoffman

server: test1
link /urg/hhoffman -> /export/home/hhoffman

I'm sorry if this has already been suggested here; it seems like the 
obvious solution, and I don't see why it would be a problem.
