using sasl without share libs

I am using OpenLDAP in conjunction with Cyrus SASL.
When OpenLDAP's ldapsearch program runs, it
dynamically loads /usr/local/lib/sasl/gssapiv2.so. Is
there a way to compile either SASL or ldapsearch so
that it statically links gssapiv2.a at compile time,
and doesn't need to load anything dynamically?
