question apache+tomcat+ldap

i'm using apache, tomcat (servlets), htacces for authentication

i change the htaccess authentication for the mod_auth module to  use LDAP
to auhtenticate

this works excelent, authenticate,
but i do some test:

* take the time to acces to the servlet

	apache+tomcat+htacces vs apache+tomcat+ldap

i suposse the apache+tomcat+ldap is more slowly but the difference is too
big
somebody can help me? can i do something to reduce this time  ?

the time to responding is very important ...

i use Jmeter to do http request and take the time
