RE: Outlook and OpenLdap

Hi Lance,

I'm not sure what you have for info but the LDAP attributes queried by
Outlook/Express are as follows (taken from a packet dump):

Outlook 2K / Outlook XP:

commonName
department
display-name
givenName
mail
organizationalUnitName
organizationName
physicalDeliveryOfficeName
postalAddress
roleOccupant
surname
telephoneNumber
title

Outlook Express:

comment
commonName
conferenceInformation
department
display-name
facsimileTelephoneNumber
givenName
homePhone
homePostalAddress
info
initials
IPPhone
labeledURI
mail
Manager
mobile
OfficeFax
OfficePager
organizationalUnitName
organizationName
otherFacsimileTelephoneNumber
otherMailbox
otherPager
pager
physicalDeliveryOfficeName
postalAddress
postalCode
Reports
street
streetAddress
surname
telephoneNumber
title
userCertificate;binary
userSMIMECertificate;binary

Note 1: Outlook 2K/XP does not query LDAP for a users' PKI certificate,
Outlook express (WAB) does.
Note 2: There isn't a way to extend the attributes that are looked up as
it is hard coded in one of the DLL's :-(.

Most of these types map onto existing LDAP schema attributes.

I've assembled some links that might be of interest (they may get
wrapped by outlook so cut-n-paste both lines):

You could also look at the abook project on sourceforge, as this schema
will work with Outlook/Netscape:

Hope this helps.

Subject: Outlook and OpenLdap

I have been reading and working with Ldap for a couple of weeks now and
have come to a brick wall as far as my knowledge goes. What I need to
do
should be fairly simple but I just can't seem to grasp it and need a
little
shove to figure it out.

The Task: I would like to create an LDAP directory to be used as a
simple
contact database. With basically the fields and structure of Outlook's
Address Book. The key point here should be that I want to be able to
add
and delete users from a web interface (I can create that easily enough)
but
be able to use that same directory within Outlook (or Outlook Express)--

thus the use of the LDAP server (that and its superior ability with this

type of task).
