you can always register your own OID tree with IANA.
A better solution would be that it was standardized though,
instead of everyone registering their own OID's for useful
attributes only specified in drafts :)

maybe I dont understand the OID concept completely, but some
kind of "local" OID would be nice, kind of the privete IP address
space.

I.e. I know my ldap server will never be accessed from outside
my own network, and even if I had to in the future I could always
register an official branch and slapcat/add the database (assuming
oid's are used as database keys).

I am using the broken technique of textual information for
my local objectclasses/attrs (ABC.1.2 etc), but I expect
to be bitten when I upgrade the next time because of the fixes :)
