2.0.11 -> 2.0.15 upgrade brings massive slowness

I was running 2.0.11 on mips NetBSD 1.5.2.  It was running out of file
handles on a regular basis, so I tried upgrading to 2.0.15.

I replaced all the 2.0.11 schema files with the 2.0.15 files.

Now logins take 5+ mins.

I added "index objectClass eq" (and took out the other index lines) and
ran slapindex.  This made no difference.

I reverted to 2.0.11, and performance returned to normal.
