oh, yeah, I also included these 4 schemas in 'slapd.conf' :-}

  include         /usr/local/etc/openldap/schema/core.schema
  include         /usr/local/etc/openldap/schema/cosine.schema
  include         /usr/local/etc/openldap/schema/inetorgperson.schema
  include         /usr/local/etc/openldap/schema/nis.schema
