So what could cause it? I don't get anything in the syslog. As said
previously, if I add a 'empty' bookmark object, then it works, but not
a big one like the one shown.

This works:
----- s n i p -----
dn: nsLIElementType=bookmarks,nsLIProfileName=turbo,ou=roaming,dc=papadoc,dc=bayour,dc=com
nsLIElementType: bookmarks
owner: uid=turbo,ou=people,dc=papadoc,dc=bayour,dc=com
objectClass: nsLIProfileElement
nsLIData: empty text
nsLIVersion: 1
----- s n i p -----

This don't...
----- s n i p -----
dn: nsLIElementType=bookmarks,nsLIProfileName=turbo,ou=roaming,dc=papadoc,dc=bayour,dc=com
nsLIElementType: bookmarks
owner: uid=turbo,ou=people,dc=papadoc,dc=bayour,dc=com
objectClass: nsLIProfileElement
nsLIData:< file:///home/operators/turbo/.netscape/bookmark.htm
nsLIVersion: 1
----- s n i p -----
