compile php with openldap

Hello, 

I which to compile php 4.0.5 as a module for apache 1.3.19 and openldap 
2.0.11
with it looking for the ldap lib in /opt/openldap/lib ...but it still looks at 
/usr/lib.

I managed everything to compile with this feature without success (even 
the LDFLAGS or -Wl -rpath tag...etc...etc...) no way to make it seek ldap 
libs at /opt/openldap/lib... I do not wish modify /etc/ld.so.conf or 
LD_LIBRARY_PATH...

I asked on a php mailing list without success.
