Solaris 7 logging problem ...

I just recently moved to a new Sun Ultra5 running Solaris7.
db-2.7.7 and openldap-1.2.9 have been installed and started.

however, I cannot seem to get logging to work. I have

1) specified loglevel 256 in  slapd.conf
2) added the following line to /etc/syslog.conf

local4.info;local4.debug			 /var/log/slapdlog

3) but no matter how I restart syslogd (kill -HUP, reboot) no slapd
activity is logged.

for what it's worth this setup worked just fine with Solaris 2.6 on a
Sparc10.

Any suggestions?
