Strange Zombie Processes

Hi all,

I compiled/installed openldap (latest stable version) on a Linux Slackware
3.6 box.  I can add entries to the directory and all, but when I query it
at random times the server will just lock up randomly. 

A 'ps -aux | grep sl' shows that after this one of the slapd processes is
going into a <zombie> state.  At this point I must kill all the slapd
processes and restart, but I can only get 1-5 searches out of the server
before this happens again.

Any ideas?
