Re: checking for corrupt db files . . .

The majority of corruption seen in db files is likely not detectable
by low level database utilities. That is, most corruption is the
result of a subset of database operations failing outright which
leads to data integrity issues such as indices not be representive
of the attribute values. As such indices are maintain in application
space, they must be checked in application space. No such application
yet exists for OpenLDAP.

We hope to release a new backend with OpenLDAP 2.0 which will utilize
database transactions to ensure data integrity at the application level.
Developer's interested in working on this or other efforts are encouraged
to jump on in.

I generally backup only id2entry.*. And when I notice a problem, I
rebuild the whole database from this one file.
