Wrong file - you generally wouldn't store OpenLDAP's own "ldap.conf" in the
top-level "/etc" directory (that's the "ldap.conf" that comes with the PAM/NSS
modules);  the "ldap.conf" used by ldapsearch, ldapmodify, etc. would normally
be stored in "/usr/local/etc", "/opt/OpenLDAP/etc" or someplace similar.
