didn't work...  the entry now looks like

dn: mail=akohlsmith@benshaw.com, dc=benshaw, dc=com

objectClass: person
objectclass: inetorgperson

cn: Andrew Kohlsmith
cn: Andrew
sn: Kohlsmith
mail: akohlsmith@benshaw.com

something I did notice, however...  neither the objectclass 'inetorgperson'
nor the attribute 'mail' existed in my slapd.oc.conf or slapd.at.conf,
respectively.  I added them but still no dice.

I do apologise for this newbie question but I'm unable to find why this
doesn't work anywhere else, nor have I been able to find reference on the
'net how to set up a simple database and make it work!

I've been to the faq-o-matic on openldap.org, searched dozens of newsgroups
and the done the whole web search thing.  Everyone seems to assume that you
know how to set it up.  :-)
