Stuff such as smbk5pwd relies on features that aren't detected in the main configure script. Nor is there any desire to add those tests to the configure script, since contrib modules are not officially maintained by the Project. As such, the provided Makefiles are a guideline and you are expected to customize them for your situation by hand if you want to use them.
