I guess it is.  Some of the overlays you can find in 
servers/slapd/overlays/ do
something like that, and I've recently developed one for my employer that
turns the result of a search into more searches to the same backend and 
glues
the resulting data together.  This is what overlays are intended for. 
You may
need to be a bit more specific if you want more specific help, though.
