I don't believe this patch is thread-safe. There must be another way to accomplish this.

Hm... I've been doing this on my 4 CPU sun box, and before this patch was applied, it always deadlocked. So far it has never deadlocked, despite having a series of operations performed. I'd expect that system to hit threading issues fairly easily if they exist.


What I haven't done is done two operations at once. I'll look into that and see if I see any issues.
