I suggest you review the DER examples in the draft-ietf-ldapext-ldap-c-api-xx.txt that can be found in docs/drafts directory. Note also that devel manuals have not yet been fully updated to match the implementation and that the implementation is not 100% compatible with the draft and that the draft is subject to change.
