Proxy LDAP

Jeff Hodges (Stanford) yesterday dropped an interesting idea
on me. The idea of a caching LDAP proxy. Basically, slurpd
with a back-ldap, a decent cache, and a bunch of knobs.

The proxy would be used to decrease latency of responses
where it was not feasible to maintain a complete replication.

For example, any workstation could run a proxy to improve
lookup of network information (user names, passwords, groups,
services, etc.). As the number of workstations might be
quite large, it may not be feasible to setup replicas on
each.

Definitely food for thought.

Enjoy! Kurt
