As far as I know, asynchronous LDAP calls can only block when connect(2)
blocks.  There's a workaround for that (which only prevents blocking) but
since blocking on connect(2) indicates a more serious issue (e.g. network
misconfiguration), I'd address that issue first.  In any case, there is
nothing so far indicating a bug in OpenLDAP software, so I'd consider this
ITS closed.
