Hi,
I am resurrecting this ITS since there has been no comment on the idea
since, nor has it been explicitly rejected by anyone.

Does it seem valid to you? If so, could you spare a pointer or two to
help me resolve some of the issues with the patch I have pointed out so
that I can make it more fit for inclusion?
