Right.  But the point is: ldap_result() and ldap_search_ext() and so are
there almost incidentally; I'd leave in the "SEE ALSO" only those pages
that are actually worth reading.  But that's a minor point.

Right.  Either solution looks fine for me: abandon and cancel serve
similar purposes, but are rather different in design and functionality,
so separate pages with cross-links are a better (or less clobbered)
solution.

Maybe just go for this until we get to a reasonably frozen layout; then
you may go with the big patch.
