I'm still not seeing any hang, using your configdir. I'll note that I'm 
using the ldapmodify command line tool and not python-ldap. Can you 
attach with gdb to the hung process and get a backtrace? We need to see 
what is actually stuck. If you can tell me exactly what client steps are 
needed to reproduce the problem, that may help too. I also note that 
your server debug log indicates a number of searches completing before 
the Modify, but your client log in the ITS only shows a modify request.
