I note that there might be an indexing issue involved here
as well.  IIRC, only values of the entry not the DN are included
in an index.  Hence, when :dn: is selected, that index should
not be used as it doesn't include all matching entries.
That is, when :dn: is selected, all entries in the database
need to be checked (until we develop a suitable index).
