Yes, they do.

In addition I have done the following test:

Shut down the replica's, recover the master, and add the entry.

Everything works correctly.

It is only when the replica's are running, with their syncRepl threads 
attached to the master, that updates get blocked, cause slapd to not die, 
and corrupt the database.

This is in my dev evironment.

In my test environment, I have the same versions of software running 
(OpenLDAP 2.2.11, cyrus-sasl/heimdal etc), except that I use slurpd for 
replication there instead of syncRepl.  Updates to the master are working 
fine (although I'm seeing some odd slurpd problems in replicating to the 
replica's occasionally, as referenced in my recent post).
