What is the current recommended way to achieve the same functionality?
After reviewing the faq, mailing list archives, and documentation it is not
completely clear. The closest thing I found was a message in the mailing
list archives recommending "security simple_bind=0" which did not work.
The documentation for the "security" keyword does not mention a
"simple_bind" option although after reviewing the source code it does
exist. I tried "security simple_bind=128" which I think might be working
but I'm not completely clear on what it means.

Perhaps an additional faq describing how to achieve this functionality
would be helpful? Or clarification of the documentation on the "security"
keyword?
