IMHO a syntax cannot be partially supported.

I still disagree. I wonder how a server can return an attribute of 
a specified syntax if it does not have any knowledge of the 
syntax. How is the server supposed to convert the attribute from 
some internal representation to transmit it on the wire in a 
correct fashion if it does not know the syntax at all?

Hmm, it seems to me that the thing which really needs its 
semantics clarified is attribute "ldapSyntaxes" in sub schema sub 
entry.
