RE: configure process is totally broken (ITS#1903)

That was it!, configure appears to initially discover gcc but then
forgets later on. I repeat my self, but configure for openldap is
broken. Should also have options to define locations for ssl and
Berkeley DB rather than setting environment variables or wrapping the
process with a script. Thanks for the information Matt.
