That's much cleaner. I applied it to both back-ldap and 
back-meta; however, I see the "undef" attributes get 
stripped off somewhere before being returned (even for 

access to * by * read

on the back-ldap, so it is not an ACL problem). Is it 
intended?

That makes a lot of sense. I must have missed it.
