replica: hostname:389 line is not written to slapd.replog (ITS#1112)

with the following configs for my master and slave servers... the replica:
line is not written to the slapd.replog file...

master ( box2 ) :

replogfile /usr/local/openldap/var/slapd.replog
replica host=box3.somedomain.net:389
        binddn="cn=Replicator, ou=People, dc=somedomain, dc=net"
        bindmethod=simple credentials=xxxxxx

slave ( box3 ) :

updatedn "cn=Replicator, ou=People, dc=somedomain, dc=net"
updateref ldap://box2.somedomain.net

with this setup slapd writes the replogfile, but fails to write the replica:
line for each modification. when slurpd tries to push these changes, it fails
with a "(not mine)" error. when i *manually* add the replica: lines, it pushes
the changes without a hitch. suggestions? i have spoke with other people on
the openldap-software list that have experience the same thing but have yet to
find the problem/fix/workaround.

thanks and take care,
heath
