It's come to my attention that, on some systems, passwords
obtained using -W (prompting) may be truncated.  The code
uses getpass(3) which, on some systems, only supports
8-character long passwords.

Your examples given in the original post showed use of
-w which should not have this problem.  However, one is
never quite sure if examples given are exact.
